This Date in History: April 11

On Wednesday, April 11, 1945, official executioner Master Sergeant John C. Woods hanged U.S. Army Private Benjamin F. Hopper at the Loire Disciplinary Training Center, Le Mans, France for the crime of murder.  His remains were later buried at the Oise-Aisne American Military Cemetery.  (The Fifth Field: The Story of the 96 American Soldiers Sentenced to Death and Executed in Europe and North Africa in World War II)
