In December 1939, John C. Woods wrote a fraudulent $50 check in Wichita, Kansas.  Wichita Detective Floyd Gunsaullus apprehended Woods and Grey Dresie, Deputy Sedgwick County Attorney, brought charges before Judge Grover Pierpont on December 22, 1939.  Woods pled guilty; Judge Pierpont ordered him to make the $50 restitution to the victim, pay a fine of $500 – as well as the trial costs – and placed on parole for two years.  (American Hangman: MSgt.
