Rudolph Stegmann

An Allied air attack killed the commander of the 77th Infantry Division, Generalmajor Rudolf Stegmann near Bricquebec, France on June 18, 1944, while the unit was in combat with the 9th US Infantry Division.  Stegmann died instantly in his command car, when he was struck in the head by 20mm cannon fire during an allied fighter-bomber attack.  (Quiet Flows the Rhine, German General Officer Casualties in World War II)  Stegmann is buried at the German War Cemetery of Orglandes in Block 4, Grave 169.
