Karl Ernst

Karl Ernst, SA-Gruppenführer, born September 1, 1904 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, former hotel bellhop and cafe bouncer, leader of SA Group 3, killed on June 30, 1934 during the 1934 Blood Purge (Night of the Long Knives) of the SA in Berlin-Lichterfelde, said of the Reichstag fire (an arson attack on the Reichstag building, home of the German parliament in Berlin, on Monday, February 27, 1933, precisely four weeks after Adolf Hitler was sworn in as Chancellor of Germany):
