German Combat Engineers Stalingrad

On November 4, 1942 the Luftwaffe airlifted the 336th Pioneer Battalion and the 294th Pioneer Battalion to Stalingrad for future combat operations (Operation Hubertus.)  The 45th Panzer Pioneer Battalion, the 50th Panzer Pioneer Battalion and the 162nd Pioneer Battalion began road marching to Stalingrad.  The Sixth Army headquarters was located at Golubinskaya.  (Stalingrad: The Death of the German Sixth Army on the Volga, 1942-1943)

On November 4, 1943 the SS Main Leadership Office designated that the Tiger company in the Das Reich would be placed under an organization to be called the 102nd SS Heavy Panzer Detachment (the headquarters to have Field Post Number 56085.)  The unit would have three Tiger companies: the 1st Company (Field Post Number 13693), the 2nd  Company (Field Post Number 12748), the 3rd Company (Field Post Number 12764), and a maintenance company (Field Post Number 58263.)  (Waffen-SS Tiger Crews at Kursk: The Men of SS Panzer Regiments 1, 2 & 3 in Operation Citadel, July 5-15, 1943)
